Interviewing is the story of your talents and experiences. Rex will cover the critical elements for interviewing and how they are the basis for effective negotiating. He will also share how building a good rapport with the interviewer will pave the way for communicating with greater confidence.
Rex’s presentation will focus on the following key points to improve your interviewing skills:
• How to develop and use short stories for every bullet on your resume.
• Understanding the art of negotiating which is selling your value to the company. What is your value and how will it help the company? How to assess and communicate this value.
• Preparation is the key – what needs to be done prior to the interview?
• An excellent “first impression” is essential for interviewing – what impressions are you creating? How are you positioning yourself?
• A good “strategy” is crucial for negotiating salary. Do you have a strategy and how effective is it?
• What do you know and understand about their challenges/issues? How thorough have you been in your research? What questions do you have that can link your value to their needs?
• How to demonstrate a genuine interest in wanting to join their team – and why!

MEET THIS MONTH’S SPEAKER
REX RAY
Richard Rex Ray, MPA, has over 20 years of leadership, organizational behavior, and facilitating experience in the areas of community management, training, human resources, and recruiting. He has managed budgets in excess of $200 million and led organizations of 4200 employees.
A retired Air Force colonel and a human resource professional, he joined Lee Hecht Harrison in November 2000 and brought extensive experience in organizational realignments, labor relations issues, and workforce reduction activities. He was vice wing commander at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (Dayton), Ohio, during the Bosnian Peace Talks.
Rex was featured in a televised testimonial for the “Hour of Power” and Department of Defense Publication, Black Americans in Defense of Our Country.” He is a professional speaker, published author, and a senior adjunct professor with Park University. Affiliations have included American Society for Training and Development and American Society of Personnel Administration. Honors include International Who’s Who of Professionals, Who’s Who Among Black Americans, and Outstanding Young Men of America. He served six years on the National Board of Directors of the Kent State University Alumni Association and served as President of Kent’s Central Ohio Chapter.
Rex is a prostate cancer survivor and has appeared as spokesperson on NBC4 (TV) Columbus to raise awareness for the Columbus Prostate Cancer Center. His photo is on the cover of the brochure advocating Prostrate Cancer Support Group Meetings in Central Ohio. He is an actor, a print model and an avid golfer. He earned a BBA in Marketing from Kent State University and an MPA in Organizational Behavior from the University of Missouri.
